Colorful Christmas Tree Ideas with Decorator’s Warehouse

Megan Martin

By:

Merry Christmas time!!! I’ve been patiently waiting since July to decorate for Christmas. No joke. 2020 needs a major dose of twinkle lights and it seemed like a great time in the middle of July to get a head start. 😂 I didn’t act on my impulses and I’m so glad I didn’t because when Decorator’s Warehouse reached out to see if I was up to collaborating on a sponsored post to create the Colorful Christmas Tree design of my DREAMS… I almost died with excitement!

To not be seen as “that crazy Christmas lady” I waited till our Martin family holiday, “Tree Day.” Aka November 1st.

Our little Tree Day tradition officially became a set date last year as I was hugely pregnant and wanted to prep all the holiday things before Claire’s arrival. We had no clue if she’d come on her New Year’s Eve due date or come early, so I was ON IT come November. The house was decorated in the first week(ish) and I had presents all done by the start of December. And guess what… I LOVED it. I loved being way early so each December day was slow and sweet and magical. And baby girl arrived on the 17th which was the best present ever for me – Extra snuggles + I didn’t have to keep fearing I’d miss out on the best day of the year!🎄💗

And now I wouldn’t want it any other way. A little crazy? Yes. Probs. But wait…. no. Only crazy in other people’s opinion. Not mine. I’m mighty thankful on Thanksgiving when my house is twinkling and the joy of Christmas is WAY too good to only last 25 days. Also… 2020.

This year we set up decorating “stations.” We put up tables we keep in the garage for parties and I spread out all the FAB Colorful Christmas Tree decorations sent straight from Santa’s Workshop Decorator’s Warehouse. This made seeing all the ornaments, sprays, ribbon, and flowers really easy while making Tree Day feel a little more like a special event for the girls. They loved looking at all the details up close and helped me unbox and prep each ornament that went on the tree!

In true me fashion, I had to have a lot of COLOR. But I also wanted to stretch my design muscles and make colorful feel a little more grown up. So much of the colorful (and family friendly) Christmas decorating options out there feel like they’d be perfect for a teenagers room.

Can colorful be classy? I was on a mission to make it happen with this Home for the Holidays Christmas Tree Challenge!

Here’s what we came up with in all her sparkly glory!!

Colorful Christmas Tree Ideas for a Designer Look

Colorful Christmas Tree Ideas. Design by Megan Martin Creative. Christmas decorations by Decorator's Warehouse. Chinoiserie Christmas decor

Ahhh I LOVEEEE it!!!

I wanted to mix a little bit of a vintage vibe with sparkly details and a whole lot of texture.

Kristin of Decorator’s Warehouse helped me create a look unique to my decor style by pairing a stunning navy and gold check ribbon with white fur poinsettias which really set off the entire look.

From there I punched up the color with big round shatterproof colorful Christmas ornaments. I was so nervous to do these gorgeous ornaments justice, but Kristin has a ton of amazing tutorials on how to get a designer Christmas tree look. I followed the video below she put together for a North Pole Christmas Tree design. TOTALLY different look, but the steps were so easy to follow and apply to my own decorations.

The big takeaway no matter what your design style is to get 4 inch Christmas Ribbon. When you go big with your ribbon, it covers a ton of surface area (and is stunning IMO). To get a high-end designer effect, layer your ribbon with various pattern, color, and texture!

In the video above, Kristin teaches you her 4-part Christmas Tree decorating formula plus how to determine how much of each you need based on your tree size. Her formula looks like:

  1. Tree Topper with a mix of Christmas sprays and flowers
  2. Christmas Ribbon – with her special technique that is super easy to follow!
  3. Christmas Floral Bunches – One big bloom or two smaller blooms with coordinating sprays you used for your topper
  4. Christmas Ornaments

The key to getting the most bang for your buck with ornaments is to get LARGE round ones. The big green shatterproof ornament below is about 8 inches in diameter. You don’t even have to hang them. You just push them right into the tree and they fill out a big chunk of surface area.

Then you gradually go smaller. The textured platinum and glittery gold twig ornaments are about 4-5 inches in diameter.

The final touch happens with your smaller specialty ornaments like my striped Shiny-Brite Christopher Radko set (these can be found in the DW Texas retail store!).

I completed the vintage inspired look with glittery resin Christmas trees on the mantle and a vintage inspired bell from the Decorator’s Warehouse collection of Christmas Accents. I also sourced the giant…ly gorgeous flocked Christmas Garland from DW, too! They have a great selection of drool worthy garlands right over here.

Love this year’s look! I always look forward to seeing how you decorate your home for the holidays! I’ve stocked up on ribbon to mimic last years’ genius toddler-friendly tree decor, but I may need to add in some fur poinsettias, too!

Thank you, Jessica!! I had so much fun creating this look. I love my toddler proof ribbon look, too! I’ll probably have to run that one again next year when Claire is 2, haha! The fur poinsettias are seriously SO GOOD!
